Prelude

2007/2009
Video installation

Prelude is about a bird who sees itself in the side mirror of a car and keeps coming back. The projected video is split by a mirror on the exact spot where the bird appears and disappears. By placing the two images at opposite sides of the room the bird flies figuratively speaking through the space. It’s as if the bird tries to escape from itself, the mirror and the installation. It creates an ambiguous feeling of breaking free from a loop, while knowing that you cannot. This artwork marked the beginning of my artistic practice, hence the name ‘Prelude’, during my second year in the Academy of Fine Arts.
